The Big Hoo-Ha About Self-Love - By Alma Wellbeing

"Love yourself unconditionally, just as you love those closest to you despite their faults." -Les Brown

Nowadays everyone is talking about self-love, and why not? Self-love is the foundation of wellbeing and a healthy mindset. And who wouldn’t want to love themselves? But in reality, we get so caught up with our lives and our relationships that somehow it can become so evasive just to do that.

Socially we have been conditioned to think that the wonderful feeling of being “in love” requires another person to feel it. That we need a partner to feel love and happiness and to feel complete. I definitely don’t mean that having a partner is a bad thing; I mean if you have that wonderful partnership with someone you should definitely cherish that. But it is ok and you are 100% allowed to experience these amazing feelings by yourself too. All it takes is practice, patience, and intention to make yourself your no 1.

Spend Some Time With Yourself

Get to know yourself better, what are your likes, your aspirations, and your dislikes. Journaling is usually a very good idea to process your feelings and thoughts. I usually advise my clients to use the note app on their phones to do journaling as it is very accessible and it’s very handy.

A Little Appreciation Goes A Long Way

We all know the power of sincere appreciation. Acknowledge and praise the good things about yourself every day. Get used to having that positive self-talk throughout the day. Become aware of your positive traits and allow yourself to fall in love with yourself.

Invest In Your Wellbeing

Invest in growing mentally, physically, and spiritually. Go to the gym, take a walk, take that painting course, go for a meditation class. Have hobbies that you enjoy and do stuff that makes you feel like you have done something for yourself today. Or just buy yourself a nice gift! Because you deserve it.

Meditate

If meditation is already not a part of your daily routine, start with a 10 minutes practice. Use the method of noticing during your meditations, notice your thoughts, be aware of them, acknowledge them, and then let them go! Understand that your thoughts are just thoughts they are not you.

Everything You Are Looking For Already Exists Within You

It sounds like a cliche but it is absolutely true. You have the capacity to give yourself all that you are expecting from another person. Only you can love yourself unconditionally. So be your own best friend, be inspired and impressed by yourself. After all, you have got only one you, and you are pretty special.
